Orchestra
Profile
Professional
Cultural Center Orchestra (PCCO) PCCO (formerly known as Zhuan
Yi Chinese Orchestra) was established in 1988 with an initial
membership of 40 members. Our goals are to professionalize
Chinese music performances and to provide more opportunities
for the general public to participate in Chinese musical activities.
Our emphasis is to nurture local talents, both performers
and composers, through exposure to international musical standards
as well as providing performance opportunities for them. Our
aim is to have a Malaysian identity in Chinese classical music
scene.
PCCO has assisted several schools and organizations established
their own Chinese orchestras. To achieve our quest in promoting
and developing local talents into world-class musicians, PCCO
actively seeks the collaborations of internationally renowned
conductors/composers such as Qian Zhaoxi, Yan Huichang, Henry
Shek, Zhang Dianyin and guest performances with Yu Xunfa,
Liubo, Yang Piaojin and Li Xungui. Realizing the need to have
a driving force that can be committed towards our goal, PCCO
appointed American-trained conductor, Mr. Chew Hee Chiat as
our music director in 1996. Under Chew's baton, PCCO has successfully
toured the region and performed in Singapore (1999) and Hong
Kong (1999).
